English, Maths and Science — Key Stage 1 to GCSE
Three core subjects, taught face to face in small groups every Saturday and Sunday. All main GCSE specifications: AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
English
Our English programme helps students develop strong communication skills, covering everything from reading and writing to analysis and comprehension — so they become confident and articulate in expressing themselves, whether through creative writing or analysing literature.
- Reading comprehension: understanding and interpreting fiction and non-fiction texts.
- Writing skills: creative and formal writing, including essays and stories.
- Spelling, grammar and punctuation: building strong foundations in language accuracy.
- Literature: key texts from the National Curriculum — plays, poetry and novels.
- Exam preparation: GCSE English Language and Literature, covering exam technique and practice.
Maths
Maths builds on itself, so a gap in Year 4 becomes a problem in Year 9. We work from the foundations up, making sure each idea is secure before moving on.
- Number and place value: understanding numbers, place value and operations.
- Arithmetic: mastering addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and their applications.
- Fractions, decimals and percentages: developing strong numerical and proportional reasoning.
- Algebra: equations, expressions, and solving problems using algebraic methods.
- Geometry and measure: shapes, space, angles and area.
- Statistics: data collection, interpretation and probability.
- Exam preparation: GCSE Foundation and Higher, with targeted support on exam technique.
Science
Our Science programme is designed to ignite curiosity and deepen understanding of the natural world. We cover all three branches, so students have a complete picture of the subject.
- Biology: cells and organisation, the human body and its organ systems, nutrition and digestion, plants and photosynthesis, ecosystems, inheritance and evolution.
- Chemistry: particles and states of matter, atoms, elements and compounds, the periodic table, chemical reactions, acids and alkalis, separating mixtures.
- Physics: forces and motion, energy and energy transfers, electricity and magnetism, waves, light and sound, and space physics.
- Working scientifically: planning fair tests, recording and analysing results, drawing and reading graphs, writing conclusions — the practical skills examiners award marks for.
- Exam preparation: KS2 SATs, KS3 assessments, and GCSE Combined and Separate Sciences.
How lessons are organised
The same structure across all three subjects, from Year 1 to Year 11.
90-minute lessons
Long enough to teach something properly and still practise it, short enough to hold a child’s attention.
Grouped by year and ability
Small groups, set after the free assessment, so the work is at the right level from the first lesson.
Our own materials
Worksheets and booklets written in house and matched to the National Curriculum for each year group.
Assessed and reported
Regular assessment with written feedback for parents, so progress is visible term by term.
